Recovery from LASIK eye surgery is typically quick. Most patients from the O’Hare area can return to their normal activities within a day or two. However, it's important to follow your surgeon's post-operative care instructions closely. You will need to come back for a follow-up visit the day after your surgery to ensure everything is healing properly. It’s recommended to plan for minimal activities and rest your eyes as much as possible during the first 24 hours after surgery.
LASIK eye surgery offers a permanent correction for many vision issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. However, it's important to note that while the structural changes made to your cornea are permanent, your eyes can still undergo age-related changes over time. Many patients enjoy clear vision for years or even decades without needing glasses or contacts. Regular eye exams with your ophthalmologist are essential to monitor your vision health.
You should not drive immediately after LASIK surgery, as your vision may be blurry, and you might be sensitive to light. Most patients can resume driving the day after their surgery following their first post-operative check-up, provided their vision meets the legal driving requirements. It’s a good idea to arrange for someone to drive you to and from your surgery and your follow-up appointment.
