However, at Kraff Eye Institute, we use advanced technology and techniques to minimize risks such as dry eyes, night vision issues, or under/over-corrections. Determining your candidacy for LASIK involves several factors, and living in Cicero or greater Chicago doesn't impact your eligibility. Generally, ideal candidates are over 18, have stable vision for atleast a year, and have common refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. However, certain conditions like thin corneas, large pupils, or dry eyes may affect your suitability.

Both LASIK and PRK are excellent vision correction options available to Chicago residents, including those from Cicero. The main difference lies in how we access and reshape your cornea. In LASIK, we create a thin flap in the cornea's outer layer, reshape the underlying tissue with a laser, then replace the flap. PRK, on the other hand, involves completely removing the outer corneal layer before reshaping, allowing it to regenerate naturally during recovery.
PRK can be an excellent alternative for patients with thinner corneas or those whose lifestyles or professions (like Chicago's first responders or professional athletes) put them at higher risk for eye injuries.
