While you’ve likely heard of LASIK surgery, you may not have heard of PRK laser eye surgery. PRK stands for photorefractive keratectomy and it is refractive surgery. A laser is used to treat blurred vision resulting from a variety of refractive errors. This means that your eye doesn’t refract (bend) light in the proper way. Those with dry eyes or thin corneas are often good candidates for this procedure; it can help treat myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The entire procedure takes anywhere from 10-15 minutes and you will heal over the 3-5 days following surgery. Roughly 90% of patients end up with 20/40 vision or better without contacts or glasses.
