good-lasik-candidate

Sophia is an example of a LASIK case study that focuses on a myopia condition. After consulting with Dr. Kraff, he found Sophia to be an excellent candidate for LASIK eye surgery for nearsightedness. Keep in mind that many patients also explore LASIK eye surgery for astigmatism.

Criteria for A Good LASIK Candidate

You might be surprised to know that not everyone is a good candidate for vision correction procedures such as LASIK, and there are some conditions that might disqualify you from moving forward with this treatment. For example, the importance of corneal thickness for LASIK is one of the top considerations for surgery patients.

Here are a few patient requirements that apply to those who are interested in the procedure:

  • The best age to have LASIK is at least 18 years or older.
  • The cornea must be healthy.
  • No active eye diseases.
  • Have a minimum of 20/40 vision with glasses or contacts.
  • Have a stable eyeglass prescription for a certain length of time.

If you're a candidate, your doctor will work with you to ensure your LASIK experience is positive!

LASIK Procedure Steps

LASIK Procedure Steps

Here are some tips for preparing for LASIK surgery as well as the LASIK eye surgery procedure steps.

Prior to Surgery

Before surgery begins, software such as the iDesign 2.0 software will be taken. This allows for customization for each patient and factors in the unique characteristics of their eyes.

LASIK Step 1

To ensure that the procedure is as comfortable as possible, your doctor will give you sets of topical numbing drops before starting.

LASIK Step 2

The next step consists of using a high-precision laser to create a thin flap on the surface of the cornea. During this step, the patient might feel a bit of pressure that only lasts for 30 seconds on each eye.

After LASIK Surgery

Once the flap is repositioned, natural forces help to hold the flap in place while the surface heals. Make sure to avoid driving for at least 24 hours after the procedure and avoid driving until you have clear vision.
