High(er) Index

What is High(er) Index?

High(er) index lenses are used in eyeglasses to make lenses thinner and lighter. Their index of refraction is higher than that of regular plastic, resulting in a denser material. High index materials are particularly beneficial for high glasses prescription, as these lenses would be thicker and heavier in a standard material.
